2011 – Guugu Yimidhirr Language Recording Revitalisation and Maintenance Project
The Guugu Yimidhirr Recording, Revitalisation and Maintenance Project was Cape York Institute’s first ancestral language support initiative. This project began in 2011 and continued with intermittent funding until the establishment of Pama Language Centre in 2015. From 2011 development of the Guugu Yimidhirr wordlist continued, work began on scripted Guugu Yimidhirr lessons for Hope Vale school, and writer’s workshops with Irene Hammett produced original Guugu Yimidhirr children’s texts including Tharnggan and Bithagurr Wuurili Bunhthiwi.
